Booked Adventure: The Pacific Northwest

Updated: Aug 25, 2022

As we continue our adventures along the shorelines, let's journey to two beaches in the Pacific Northwest: Cannon Beach, OR and Third Beach, WA.

Cannon Beach is the site of the oft photographed monolith known as Haystack Rock, home to many seabirds nesting by the shore. The beach itself is beautiful, even if it was a bit chilly on the June afternoon I visited it. As one of the shooting locations for The Goonies, it gives off those nostalgic adventurous vibes that are just oh so cozy. I'm not going to expound too much on its beauty here, though, because I have plenty of pictures to convince you of its charm:

Moving northward up RT 101, Washington's Third Beach is on the Pacific Coast of the Olympic Peninsula. While not as famous as some of the other beaches on the peninsula, I found Third Beach to be more charming because it was less crowded. There is more space to explore and it's easier to take in all of the surrounding nature.

While we were there, we saw a pod of porpoises, chatted with some campers, and enjoyed the connected hiking trails. We were there in 2012, and I suppose I must have been obsessed with all the flotsam because they occupy most of the pictures I took that day:

The markings suggest this came from across the ocean
